Founded by the Band's President, Dr Denis Wright, in 1952, we have a Board of Trustees, chaired by Dr Robert Childs, all of whom have a passion for brass. They give their time and expertise to assist the smooth running of the NYBB and NCBB. Some of the Board played in the band as youngsters, some have joined us more recently. The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain is in mourning after receiving the tragic news that Administrator Mr Philip Biggs passed away on Wednesday 11th September 2019 following a short illness. Philip was a father figure to all the members that passed through the Band and an advisor to conductors and staff alike. The Trustees of the Band would like to offer their most sincere condolences to his wife Ruth and daughter Alice.
Dr Robert Childs, Chairman, said, “Philip was a true gentleman whose expertise in the field of administration was second to none. During his time with the band he revolutionised the organisation in so many ways. He will be sadly lost and impossible to replace”.
Artistic Director, Bramwell Tovey added, “Words fail me - I will never hear his laughter and wit, nor his acute wisdom again. A strong and hugely respected personality and a most loyal friend. My heartfelt condolences to his wife, Ruth and daughter Alice on their loss”.
